Course Descriptions
HS 101. Introduction to Health Professions. 1 Credit Hour.
Introduction to Health Professions provides an overview of clinical health professions. The academic preparation and career opportunities are considered for each profession.
Prerequisites: Reading Proficiency
HS 200. Health Literacy. 3 Credit Hours.
Health Literacy provides an overview of non-medical factors affecting healthcare. The course covers definitions and influences on health literacy, ending with a review of public health and responsibility to community. Students examine social determinants of health while exploring how culture, diversity, ethics, and communication impact the overall healthcare experience.

HS 210. Introduction to Evidence-Based Medicine and Research. 3 Credit Hours.
Introduction to Evidence-Based Medicine and Research provides an introduction to the basic quantitative and qualitative research techniques used in public health, health education and promotion, and the health professions. Students develop a research question and use an evidence-based medical approach to draw conclusions.
Prerequisites: ENG 101, ENG 102, or ENG 103 with a minimum grade of "C", HIM 101 with a minimum grade of "C", concurrent or prior enrollment in MTH 180 with a minimum grade of "C", and Reading Proficiency
