Program Description

The Central Sterile Processing Technician program is a 28-week program that provides the foundation for individuals interested in the Central Sterile processing field.

By completing this program, you'll be equipped to perform a variety of essential tasks, including:

  • Cleaning, decontamination and disinfection techniques.
  • Instrument preparation and packaging.
  • Sterilization testing and procedures.
  • Sterile storage, transportation and inventory management.
  • Caring for and distributing patient care equipment.

This training prepares you to earn the Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) credential supported by the Healthcare Sterile Processing Association.

You must be a current BJC employee or be selected for an open sterile processing position with BJC HealthCare to be eligible for training.

  • 28-week long program
  • 100 hours of hybrid classroom instruction
  • 400+ hours of on-the-job training completed at an assigned BJC HealthCare Hospital

Admission Requirements

  • At least 18 years old
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • A BJC employee in good standing.
  • Selected by a BJC Sterile Processing Manager to participate. 

Program Location

  • STLCC-Forest Park

Program Cost

Funding is available for those that are selected for the program. Requires a 1-year full-time employment commitment to BJC HealthCare upon completion.

Financial Aid Eligibility

This program is not Federal Financial Aid/Pell Eligible.
